Porting numbers

A few days ago i decided it was about time i bought a new mobile; i had been hoping to get an iPhone however i am not willing to fork out up to €600 to get one. So instead i decided to lg gw520get a really great phone made by LG.

The phone i bought is the LG GW520; it is a great phone and was definitely worth buying it. It has a touch screen and even has a full QWERTY keyboard which slides out from underneath it, so anyone who is good at typing and knows where all the keys are, then you would really like this phone :D .

So originally my network operator was Vodafone and when i was looking about for a new phone the options they had were pretty lame, so i decided to have a look at o2's phone's and they were so much better, they have a lot of ' exclusive to o2 ' phones, and the LG phone i bought was one of them.

The phone only cost me €199 and you even get €50 free credit, what more could you ask for :D . The stupid thing was that since i wanted to change over from Vodafone to o2 there was going to be a bit of trouble.

Since i had once been with o2 and then went to Vodafone, in order to go back to o2 once again it requires some kind of special sim card. So it turned out they had none of the sim cards that i needed left in stock in any of the stores in my town so i had to wait about a week before they would have them! Like how do you run out of sim cards?

The stupid thing is that if i had been transferring over from Vodafone to o2 for the first time then they could have given me a sim card no problem or if i wanted a new number then it would not have been a problem either. The thing i would like to know is, how sim cards are so different, surely they are all built the same way.

So to port my number from the Vodafone network to the o2 network took a bit of time, but it was definitely worth it, the price plans are slightly cheaper with o2 than Vodafone.

I also looked around online to buy my LG phone and even considered getting it unlocked so i could of used it on Vodafone, but it worked out more expensive and o2 seemed to have the best deal on it.

Back at work now

For the past two weeks i had been off work due to being in hospital and in turn i had to take time off from work on doctors’ orders. Now however i am allowed to get back to work :D .

Having time off from work is great, but it is only great when you plan it and have something planned to do. When it is not your choice, like having to go into hospital, then it is not so enjoyable.

When you are used to getting up and going into work it just becomes part of your normal daily routine, so when something that fills so many hours of your day is taken away it seems somewhat odd to have nothing to do.

Over recent weeks i have begun to get a lot more work on the side to do, such as making a few sites for some people. It is great to finally have people ask for my help, at least i know all my hard work is now not going to waste :D. I am also now fixing a lot of computer's and laptop's as it seems once one person breaks their computer usually a lot more suddenly break, or maybe this just happens for me, anyway there will be no complaining from me, as more work equals more money & experience :D .

Eircom blocking Pirate Bay, stupid idea

Okay over the past few months there was a lot of war over The Pirate Bay and all of its illegal downloading issues. This really had and still has major record label company's all edgy. They are continuously asking Irish phone broadband companies to block there customers access to the Pirate Bay website.

So fair enough, a few months ago this might have been somewhat acceptable, they wanted to save money by stopping people from downloading illegally. Obviously this would cause a lot of controversy with people with freedom of information and so on.

However it has been fully settled now for a few months that the Pirate Bay has been sold to another company, and this company wishes to convert the illegal site into a legal one, perhaps by making people pay to download music albums and maybe in turn provide royalties back to the owners of the content.

I am sure the record companies are aware of this and yet they still persist on asking Irish broadband providers to block the site. It is a waste of time for them doing this. According to the 'Irish Times' ( Irish Newspaper ) Eicom have agreed to block the site from September on, whereas other broadband providers have refused to do so.

I think that the record companies should just sit back, at least for the moment and wait for the transfer of ownership to take place, and if it is changed to a legal site then there will be no need to go around hassling broadband companies. But if it remains an illegal site then fair enough try your best.

I personally think that it should never be allowed for someone to block you access to a site. If you pay for a service you should be allowed to look at what you want, when you want.
