Lazy Day Today

March 06, 2009

I have not done too much today, i had a bit of a lazy day, sure isnt that what you are supposed to do when you have a week off college! Today i gave my computer a boot up the ass!, I defragmented my main hard drive and so far i have actually noticed a difference, over the past few days i noticed my fan on my pc was continously going mental, but now since it has been defragmented it has not gone mental at all, it seems really quiet, the way it should be .

Tomorrow i plan to go and see Gran Torino, Clint Eastwoods new film, should be good. Here is a trailer of it:

I have heard some mixed reviews about it but i reckon it will be good.

I was also on youtube today and i was watching the new video by Ask A Ninja:

I think it is hilarious, i kept playing it

And then this is a song by We Are Scientists called After Hours, i really like this song now, very catchy.

Telnet for Windows Vista & Windows 7

January 25, 2009

A while back I noticed that on Windows Vista there was no Telnet, the reason for this is that telnet is not secure and they decided to leave it out because they were trying to update their level of security. In windows 7 it’s the same thing, it has no telnet.

I have now found out how to get telnet on windows vista and windows 7. It is really simple and is done like this:

  1. Open control panel.
  2. Then go into programs.
  3. Then in programs and features there should be a part that says ‘turn windows features on or off ‘ .
  4. Click ‘turn windows features on or off ‘ then on the list that appears simply check the box beside: Telnet Client.
  5. Then click ok.

Then it will simply work as normal. Hope this helps!

I also made a quick video of how this is done.

Theme Preview For WordPress

August 18, 2008

Since the wordpress 2.6 upgrade came out, which allowed you to preview your themes before you applied them, i could not get this feature to work. Whenever i clicked to preview a new theme it would just show my site and the theme that was already on my site, this was annoying i wasn’t able to see how the new theme would look on my website. I wanted to be able to preview it so that if it didn’t work properly it would not effect the appearance of the site.

After a while i began searching on the internet to see if this happened to anybody else and it has happened to a few, but there was no answer on how to fix this so that the theme preview section would work.

A few days ago i was editing another site of mine when i wanted to preview loads of different theme’s so the quickest way would be to use the wordpress theme previewer however it would not work so i had to apply each theme which takes longer. So i got bored of continuously applying and reapplying the different themes so i went around the wordpress setting’s trying to find a way to fix the theme preview section.

And success i managed to find out how to fix it, if you go into the general setting’s in wordpress there is two boxes one says: WordPress address (URL) and the other says: Blog address (URL). I found that if you change the two of these website addresses to be the same then the theme previewer would work perfectly, it is strange but i dont know why it wouldn’t work if they are different, but i am just happy i now have that feature working.

Back From Galway

July 03, 2008

Last weekend (28th June) i went to Galway with all of my friends for a 21st party, it was great crack, we initially decided to stay just for the Saturday night and go home on the Sunday. We got up really early on Saturday morning at 6:30am and went to the train station at 7:30am, we had to get a train to Dublin then onto Galway from there.

The train ticket cost €68, for a return ticket. When we arrived in Dublin and made our way to the train there was a massive line, we had to sit on the train’s floor for 3 hours to Galway! That really annoyed everyone since it was really warm and packed. When we arrived at Galway it just got better from there. We were staying in the college student accommodation, these rooms are rented out for the 3 months that the college is closed. They were brilliant, they only cost €35 a night and you got free travel in a mini bus to and from the city center, and we got free breakfast the next morning!! all included in the small price of €35.

We went out that night and since it was our friends 21st we were all dressed as pirates (ARRGH!!) We had  a great time everyone seemed to like us and were taking picture’s of us and everything  after a great night of partying we all were looking forward to a good night’s sleep, however it would have to be cut short since check out time was 10am sharp!!

When we all got up we decided that we would stay an extra night so went down to book the extra day, they said it would cost €60 for the extra night since we were booking it with such short notice, but then they told us that if we went into town and booked it through there website it would be even cheaper! And indeed it was it was only €30 to stay on the Sunday night, €5 cheaper than the previous night this was because it was a Sunday.

When we had it all sorted out we went around the city center and looked in the shops and had lunch, then after lunch we were passing a group of people setting up a mat on the ground, they were going to be putting on a show so we decided to sit and watch it, it was brilliant they done loads of acrobatic performances. Here they are in the pictures below.

Mad limbo

Head standing

That was a brilliant show

Later that day we went and lay about in Eyre Square

us in eyre square

Later that night we just had some drinks in the apartment and had the crack!

Then the next day we were back up at 10am and checked out and went around the city again until we got our train home at 3pm

The place we stayed in was called Corrib Village

It was definitely a great trip to remember!
