dont forget your whois
Posted by: Sean | Posted on: September 23rd, 2010 | 0 Comments
whois? what is it, basically it is a form on online identity protection for your domain name. That may sound a bit blown out of proportion, but that's basically what it does. Whenever you buy a new domain name and fill in your details such as your email, home address and contact number, usually this is all publicly available. this is unless you choose to buy whois, if you choose to get the whois privacy then all these details will be masked and not available to the general public. if you want to look up the whois details of a domain you can look them up on whois.net, sometimes when your domain was bought from a web hosting company you will have to go to their site to see your whois information. So if you have recently registered a domain name, and you are unsure if you have paid for this service, I recommend you go and check. I always pay for it, I like to have my identity as protected as possible. I have a few friends who have recently bought some domain names, and I looked up their sites on the whois site and they forgot to get this service, since then they have gone out and paid for it!
No new theme this month

Last month I said that I wanted to make a few changes to the current theme on my blog. I wanted to have these new changes made either to the existing theme or a new theme by this month (April), but I just haven't had a chance to get it done.
I do not want to rush my new theme, I want to enjoy making it so for that reason I am putting it off now until the summer. Summer will be here sooner than you would think, there is only about 6 weeks until I get my summer holidays :D .
I am currently working away on a website for a hair salon in town here, so I am spending a fair bit of my time on that. Today I registered a .ie domain for it, usually when you try to register a .ie domain you are asked for proof of who you are and where you live and what you want to put up on your site, I remember doing that the last time, it was just so awkward!
However that is not the case if you are registering a .ie for a business, all you need to do is submit the business CRO (Companies Registration Office) number and you are on your way, it literally only took me 10 minutes to register and get the new .ie domain registered!
On a side note, if you are thinking of getting a .ie domain, now might be a good time to do it, Blacknight are having a sale on there .ie domains, I managed to register this new domain for €14.99 which is really cheap for a .ie domain, I got it from Blacknight.
So many domains

I have registered a lot of domain names over the past year and I am starting to lose track of where I have registered each of them, it is hassle having to look up old e-mails or whois.net. So I have decided that I will transfer all the domains that I have in different places all to the one domain registrar. Leateds.com is currently hosted with GoDaddy, GoDaddy was the first hosting company that I used, I was new to buying hosting. Usually I would just use free hosting sites, the downside to that was all of the ads and if you really wanted to be taken seriously you have to have a simple domain not one like yourname.incrediblefreehosting.com. It is just too long! Anyway although GoDaddy is a really big hosting company I found my site went slow with them, so I ended up moving to another hosting company after my first three months with GoDaddy expired. Since this blogs domain is hosted with them I need to move it somewhere else, I have most of my domains hosted with name.com, I find that they are good value for money :D . Sometime over the next few days the Leateds.com domain will go down temporarily while it switches over to its new registrar. To switch the domain over it will cost a little under €6 or $9.99.
