Should I Go, Or Should I Stay?

My blog here is currently hosted on Lunarpages servers and my hosting account expires now at the beginning of next month. In order to renew my hosting account there it would cost me $107.40 (€76.53) which is a ridiculas amount to have to pay for one year’s hosting, in my opinion. I decided to have a quick look on the Lunarpages site to see what their current rate is for customers now, and it is so much better than what they are offering me!

Now you can get a full years hosting with them for only $59.40 (€42.33), that is almost half the price they are trying to get off me! So I think that it would be a good idea to leave Lunarpages, I have got another hosting account with Dreamhost which only cost me $9.24 (€6.96) for a full year, now obviously that is not their usual yearly cost, but I got that when they were having a deal.

My point is here why should I pay for another years hosting when I could just simply export all my databases from Lunarpages and then Import them all into Dreamhost then I could just transfer my Domains Nameservers over to Dreamhost. That way I could have a full years hosting with Dreamhost for virtually nothing, since I have already bought it.

I think that it would not hurt Lunarpages to look after their current customers before looking for new ones. They could offer their current customers a discount on their next year’s hosting that would at least match their current offer they are offering to new customers!

I still have not fully made my mind up yet if I should switch, but it is likely that I will.  I have a few more days to decide before my hosting expires, then I will send off the e-mail cancelling my account if I choose to go ahead. Sure my websites might go down for a few hours, but it will be worth it to save me spending another $107.40! :o

After about 2 days of my website being down i have finally got it working now. it was really annoying me i hadn't a clue what had happened. I had recently bought new hosting from a different provider, i was using GoDaddy but i am now using Lunarpages.

When i signed up for the hosting on Lunarpages apparently they did not set my account up properly, this caused me to not be able to transfer my files onto my server using FTP or by using there Control Panel, everytime i tried logging in it said 'Login Failed' saying that  my Username and Password was wrong! So i decided i would contact the tech support and they quickly fixed my problem, they told me that my account was setup wrong so they ended up changing me a different server, i didn't care which server i was on once it worked.

So it is all working now, so i am happy :). I have definitely noticed the difference on this new hosting account, i find that my website loads much faster and it does not jump when scrolling down the page, i dunno what was going on with the GoDaddy server but i would definitely not recommend using it, i would recommend using the Lunarpages hosting.

I also got a great deal on my hosting, i signed up for a years hosting and it only cost me €28.88 ($45.40) which is unbelievably cheap! It was supposed to cost me $95.40 but since i managed to get a hold of a $50 discount i was happy, really cheap hosting, i payed about $35 for my 3 month hosting with GoDaddy and managed to get 12 months of hosting with Lunarpages for only $45.40, definitely cant beat that.

This site soon will be here 3 months on the 12th of july that means that i am going to have to renew my hosting account, the reason i only paid for 3 months of hosting was so that i could test out the service that this provider is offering. I am currently using GoDaddy for my hosting but i think the server is a bit slow, i have been looking around for slightly faster servers at good prices and have found some on Lunarpages, Dreamhost and Webair

My next purchase of hosting will be for 2 years, i decided to go for 2 years because you get bigger discounts and more services for the longer you buy the hosting for. Once this new hosting is faster i will be happy, of course it has got to have support for php5 because this current theme requires it.

The prices on the 3 different Web hosting services are as follows:

So those are the 3 hosting providers that i have been looking at and i have to say the service looks great. The only thing i find hard to believe is the amount of storage & bandwidth you get, i suppose i have roughly that amount with my current supplier. Im still not sure which one i am going to go with, i have to take into account that with Lunarpages i would be using a discount coupon but when you go to renew the price will go up and you cannot use a coupon more than once.

I think that i will most likely either go for Dreamhost or Webair, yeah they cost a little more but they have fantastic service response time and with the quotes i got for them they will be the same price everytime i go to renew, no nasty higher prices.

I was considering going for some local hosting here in Ireland, but to be honest who in there right mind would pay for the high prices, and also they give you very little storage space, a few hundred MB of storage for a ridiclous price. Its cheaper to just buy away from home.
