The Way To See Tweets – VisibleTweets!

Over the last week, I have really gotten back into the whole tweeting thing :D There were always tweets coming onto my twitter profile however they were just links that would direct people to my latest blog post!

I used to always use twitter when I was in college, however now that I am on my summer holidays, it has been getting neglected a bit :( . So now I have kind of become addicted to sending out tweet updates.

I have also started to follow more people now on twitter, to widen the information that I am receiving, I am trying my best to find more people from Ireland on twitter so I can follow them, and it is always useful to stay up to date with local info too!

Anyway that is kind of going off topic, one night when I received a link on one of the updates from twitter to a great websites that displays tweets in a kind of unique way.

The site is called VisibleTweets, you just type in a word you want to know about, or you can @ someone to just see their updates, so if you @leateds you will just see my updates! It displays in a really colourful way, the background changes every so often and the text kind of falls into place.

The transition from one tweet to another is done in a clever way, some of the letters that are in the current tweet that are in the next tweet stay while the other letters fade out, then the letters that stay behind are re-ordered and extra letters are added to make a new tweets message.

It really is an interesting way to see twitter updates.  There are many different methods to searching, any of the search operators that can be used on twitter can also be used on VisibleTweets.

Now Is The Time To Begin The Work

As you can see in the picture above I have put my music video / entertainment site into a maintenance state. Now if anyone decides to pop over to www.entertainmentclam.com they will just be simply greeted by this little splash screen.

I have wanted to get around to upgrading that site for a long time and now that I have moved it from my old server to my new one I think that it would be an appropriate time to temporarily shut it down so that I can start to get a move on with the re-construction of the site. I want to first off upgrade the version of the software that was on the site. The version I was using was not the latest so I am taking this opportunity get around to sorting that out.

I also want to make a nice looking site that nobody else has, I know that this is a really huge task for me to undertake, but I want to put myself under some pressure, I want more pressure to learn more about web design, I have been lacking in web development over the past few weeks.

So now in my spare time, or basically whenever I am not at work, I will be devoting my time to the 'EntertainmentClam' website, I might decide to post a few status updates to this blog to let everyone know what I am getting up to. Also I will definitely be using its twitter account a lot over the next while and may be looking for some help on certain problems I might run into. The code that is running on the 'EntertainmentClam' is the most complex code that I have ever worked with, it usually takes me 10 times longer to get something done, I want to be able to get work on it faster so I am going to try and study how the main features work so I can navigate through the code at a fairly quick pace.

Another thing I want to get done is to try and make a nice new logo for the site, the one that was on it looked ok, but is just not what I am looking for, so that will be another challenge for me as I am not too good with graphic design!

New Theme Live

Finally after over a month of me saying that i would be getting my new theme completed, the time has finally arrived. Today i added the new theme to the site.I have also incorporated a new section 'Photos' which links to my Flickr account, and pulls in all my photos.

On the right hand side i have an updated method of displaying my latest tweets and below the search bar is a link to the main social sites that i use.

In the footer of the theme i have a tag cloud which lists the most popular posts in my blog. Also it shows my latest blog posts and the most popular blog posts. When viewing my posts on there own individual page there is an option to share the post across multiple sites including stumbleupon, twitter and digg. Also below the posts it shows a list of related posts which may interest you, such as another post talking about the same topic that you are currently reading.

Finally i have a new great looking logo. I paid to have this logo designed and i think it was well worth the money. It cost me about €20 from logonerds. I am really happy on how it turned out and they really do include exactly what you want. And they seem to have taken the Irish part of my site to the extreme with the shamrocks, i like them though they look great.
