Monaco, what a race!

May 16, 2010

Last week I said I couldn’t wait until this Monaco race, I said it is my favourite track and it definitely didn’t let me down this time!

The safety car drivers certainly had their work cut out for them today, they were out four times in the course of today’s race, that is just mental! Loads of disadvantages there with the cars becoming overheated which can cause havok.

I like the Monaco track because it is really challenging for the drivers, overtaking is virtually impossible, but Alonso made short work of that and made it from all the way at the back of the grid in 24th position to finish the race in 6th position! That made the race even more entertaining.

button_monaco Unfortunately Button didn’t make it to the finish line, having to retire on just the second lap! because his car begun to overheat due to a cooling cover being left on the left sidepod of his car.

There were lot of racers that had to retire from the race including Kovalainen, Senna, Barrichello, Kobayashi, Lucas di Grassi, Glock, Pedro de la Rosa, Button and Hulkenberg. That is a heck of a lot for one race.

On top of these there was also petrov who had to retire and a last minute crash between Karun handhok and Jarno Trulli, this crash looked  extremely bad with the two cars pilling up on top of each other almost making the racetrack fully blocked.

The race ended with Webber in p1, Vettel in p2 and Kubica in P3. My team, McLaren, Hamilton finished up in p5 with Button retired after lap 2.

All round an excellent race, with lots of action :D! A lot more than expected for such a tough track.

Schumacher got a last minute penalty for passing Alonso on the final lap which put him from p6 to p12, unfortunate result for him!

The next race is in two weeks time in Turkey, looking forward to it!

Now I have a bill phone

This is something that I have always wanted to stay away from, getting a bill phone. But I always knew that I might end up getting one when I go to get an iPhone.

Now I had not intended on getting a bill phone this early, I was going to wait a while, but today I got a call from an o2 sales representative and usually I won’t listen to them and I just say I haven’t got the time, can they call me back another time. Usually they won’t ring back, either that or I just say I am not interested.

So I decided to listen this time, to see what they were up to! It turns out they were promoting this new bill service called o2 Clear, it is directed at prepay customers, instead of having a bill contract for 12 months, it is more like a bundle of so many minutes and so many texts for x amount and I can leave at anytime, I just tell them 30 days in advance and I won’t get charged anything extra.

So to find out what plan best suited me they asked me a few questions like what networks I ring?, do I ring landlines? and how much credit do I spend on average each month?. Then they went on to tell me the options I could benefit from and how much I could save, apparently.

The plan I ended up going for is called o2 Clear 175, in this bundle I get 175 minutes of calls to any network and 100 texts to any network. I decided to give this bill a go for now, since there is no long term commitments I thought why not! The charge for the o2 Clear 175 is €30 a month.

If it turns out that I don’t get enough use out of it I will just switch back! I also got to set limits up on how much over my bill I am willing to spend, I chose that my total bill could go to €35, I don’t want to be having any huge bill in the post!

Also, if there is any credit on your phone before you switch, it comes off your first bill! Good to know my credit won’t be just disappearing :D. Also while I was on the phone to o2 I decided to sign up to o2 Blueroom, which is so I can get priority tickets for concert on in the o2 in Dublin, should be handy for the future.

Spanish Grand Prix – Can't believe it

May 09, 2010

Today’s Grand Prix race came with a sudden twist at the end. The team I follow is McLaren and throughout the whole race they were performing really well.

That was up until the second last lap where suddenly Lewis’ tyre blew out and he lost control and crashed the car. I could not believe it, he was set to be on the podium again, last timeLewis' tire in spanish grand prix 2010 in China he was up there.

I would be absolutely gutted if I had completed almost the entire race and was in with a good chance of winning and then suddenly have to retire due to a tyre blow out!

The race was excellent though and I did not even expect Lewis to get as far as he did, I didn’t know the drivers starting positions until today as I didn’t get time to watch the qualifying laps. As soon as I saw that the two Red-Bull cars were in P1 and P2 I knew that it was going to be a good race, Webber and Vettel are great drivers and you can guarantee that if they qualify in those positions then they are likely to keep them.

When Lewis suddenly overtook Vettel I couldn’t believe it, I was sure that the race was going to finish with the two red bulls in P1 and P2 and Lewis staying in P3 where he qualified.

Lewis' tire in spanish grand prix 2010Lewis has definitely lost a lot of points now because of this race, and will have to pull of some incredible races over the next few races to attempt to get back into the battle for world champion. Button is doing brilliant so far this season, currently up on top, leading by 3 points, it’s not a lot but if he keeps up with these steady points he is going to be in with a good chance of winning world champion for the second time in two years.

The next race is in Monaco next week, and this is definitely my most favourite track out of them all, it is usually full of action and the cars are in close to each other in lots of corners as they are sharp, I think what also makes these track interesting is that it takes place out on the streets! The people in the apartments around the street where the race takes place definitely have the best seats in the house!

I recently stated to listen to Marina and the Diamonds, and I really like that style of music. Her music is very similar to that of Florence and the Machine.

I decided that I would go to her concert on her next tour, she is currently doing a tour, however it is sold out so I couldn’t go to it.

When I found out that Marina and the Diamonds were going to be doing another tour I booked my tickets straight away. It is actually really cheap, the tickets were only €23 each.

The concert is on in Vicars Street in Dublin on October 27th. I am looking forward to this concert, I haven’t gone to too many concerts, I think I have only ever been to two concerts! I usually just go to a few gigs of local bands which are usually just as good in my opinion :D!

Here is one of Marina and the Diamonds songs below.

Exams approaching

Next week I will be starting my final exams of this year in college and they are also my last exams in this degree!

That’s not to say that I am finished with college, definitely not. I intend on continuing on into fourth year to do an add on degree in IT Management.

In total I have four exams to do, two of these exams are next week and two the following week. The exams are fairly spaced out, which is good because it gives me time to prepare for the next one instead of being rushed. Each exam is two hours long, and the majority of my exams begin early in the morning also which is great, I like to get them out of the way as quick as possible :).

This week is my week off from college to prepare for the exams, this week is a study week.

So within two weeks I will be finished with college and I get to enjoy my summer 😀 .
